>>2250 The Chinese dialect spoken in California is Cantonese, which has always used traditional Chinese characters, both now and during Mao's time. Simplified Chinese is solely a feature of Mandarin, most other dialects use traditional.
>>2255 Based.
>>2255 LOL
>>2254 Incorrect. Simplified Chinese is used in the PRC and Singapore while Traditional is used in Taiwan, HK, and Macau. Traditional is associated with cantonese because HK and Macau speak cantonese. But cantonese speakers in Guangdong province (which make up the majority of the world's population of cantonese speakers) use simplified script where as mandarin speakers in Taiwan (the majority language) use traditional script. Therefore we can see there is no causal relation between writing script and spoken dialect. Further more, every other dialect of the Chinese language in the PRC uses simplified script with the exception of dialects that have developed their own writing systems before the modern era, these dialects use neither traditional nor simplified script. That being said, one can understand why a person living in the California SSR might mistakenly believe that cantonese must use traditional script. Many Chinese living in the California SSR are cantonese speakers AND come form places that use traditional script or immigrated before simplified script was invented. Thus, it is reasonable for a rational person to associate cantoneses dialect with traditional script given the evidence at hand. What this means is that a serious reeducation campaign needs to be done to modernize the Chinese script used by people whoe speak Chinese in the California SSR and inform non-Chinese speakers of the nuances of the Chinese language. >>2257 >>2255 based double dubs Give these anons some social credit points.
>>2291 >That being said, one can understand why a person living in the California SSR might mistakenly believe that cantonese must use traditional script. Thus, it is reasonable for a rational person to associate cantoneses dialect with traditional script given the evidence at hand. Has nothing to do with that, it's actually mainly from word of mouth and the fact that everyone I've spoken to online from Guangdong uses traditional script. I speak Cantonese (I wrote the OP), though I learned it here in California already knowing the other two major languages here (would recommend, Chinese people's faces light up when they see someone speaking their language who doesn't look like they should be able to). So then is there a movement in Guangdong to restore traditional characters or something?
Accidentally came across this seemingly unknown song called "California, California". Sadly the first 7 or so seconds of the song have some talking overlapping over it from a monologue about California's part in WW2. I like the song, but I can't seem to find it anywhere but this one recording. I can't even find anything about this song apart from the composers. Not even lyrics or anything like that. I wonder if there's a way to remove the talking from the first bit while keeping the music under it intact. Here's what I got out of it: California, California, the sirens lure your name! California, California, the whole world knows your fame! Men have come from far and near To settle down, to make home dear, in California, California, the home of the golden west! The home of the golden west!
Fuck California, we need Aztlán.

>>2336 >Nacionalismo Chicano Que asco.
>>2235 How do I speak californian? I have watched californication on FX 37 times but I am still not fluent
>>2361 Just go with the flow brah. Ride some sick waves, broski. Ranch it up, y'know what I mean?
(5.52 KB 269x188 images.jpeg)
>>2362 lmao right on! brah
>>2361 Los Ángeles has like 12 official languages, so chances are you already speak at least one of them.
(39.94 KB 900x550 Real-California-Milk.jpg)
Why is it so good. I can't stop drinking it. I don't even need to eat something with it. Sometimes I just drink by itself, because it's so refreshing to drink. Pouring out a glass of cold, refreshing milk and chugging it down. Its amazing and California Milk is so fucking great.
>>2394 Californian milk is fucking amazing, Broguiere's is like the best thing to exist. I always see Canadians bragging about their bagged milk, I wonder how it would compare.
>>2394 >>2395 It's just milk. It can't be that good, right?
(25.34 KB 281x423 Dairy_princess.max-752x423.jpg)
>>2395 I've never heard of Broguiere. I looked it up, and guessing that it's a thing mainly in Los Angeles. Looks tasty as fuck. If I'm able to, I'll see if either I can get some family down there to send some or I'll get it myself when visiting. Also you ever heard about the Dairy Princess or is that just a central valley thing lol?
>>2397 Nah, the difference is night and day when you compare it to the mass-produced stuff that comes from who knows where. >>2398 >I've never heard of Broguiere. I looked it up, and guessing that it's a thing mainly in Los Angeles. Looks tasty as fuck. If I'm able to, I'll see if either I can get some family down there to send some or I'll get it myself when visiting. Would recommend, it's so damn good. Didn't know about it being mainly LA-based, considering I do live there. Should be a bigger thing, honsestly. >Also you ever heard about the Dairy Princess or is that just a central valley thing lol? Never heard of it. Looked it up and I'm still pretty confused, jej.
(289.77 KB 520x796 Sans Culotte.jpg)
>>2400 >Should be a bigger thing, honsestly. Idk, I've never seen it before. But my guess it would be if it was here, it would be in larger stores like Costless or something like that so I'll check if they do once this corona thing goes away >Looked it up and I'm still pretty confused, jej Kinda makes sense its a Central valley thing. We have a lot of dairy farms Essentially their kinda like the spokesperson of the California diary industry. And its kinda ironic beacuse they elect the princess , so it technically isn't a monarchy. I just remembered it when thinking of California milk and how during career day they would bring the Dairy Princess out to talk to us. And now I'm thinking how funny it would be if their was a French Revolution but for milk.
>>2407 >Idk, I've never seen it before. But my guess it would be if it was here, it would be in larger stores like Costless or something like that so I'll check if they do once this corona thing goes away Oh, not doubting you. Just saying that if it's not a thing elsewhere, it definitely should be. It's so good. >Kinda makes sense its a Central valley thing. Had no idea this was even a thing, wow. Tbh, the only times I've ever been to the Central Valley is passing through on my way up to San Francisco. I just remember it for having a ton of farmland. Which is no surprise, considering California is one of the top agricultural producers in the world.
>>2410 Yeah, that all there is in the Central Valley, maybe outside of the cities. It's kinda boring, but also kinda peaceful
