Catchy folk/ propaganda music.

No boring ass woody Guthrie singing about how sad it to be from Oklahoma while strumming his guitar. I want synthesisers, fast rhythms, weird ass instruments you’ve never heard before. I want shit that would make you want to get up and dance in your local town square with other third world peasants. Is its leftist? cool. Is its advocating for the genocide of some ethnic minority or the establishment of a global caliphate? I don’t give shit as long as the music is fire.

Do you think cats can pass the mirror test? My cats seem self aware, but aren't interested in mirrors. They also have zero understanding of computer screens, and keep crawling behind speakers looking for the source when you play recorded cat meows, no matter how many times you do it. I really wish I could communicate enough with animals to explain how technology works sometimes, or how certain things are dangerous to them. It would be more fun if I could teach cats about light switches, or if we could design VR video headsets with games that cats would like to play.

Films You Just Watched Thread

Hello, the most recent movie threads have seemed a bit unfocused, this thread is for the discussion of movies we just watched and other anon's takes on them. So, without further ado I'll begin. I just watched Parasite last night, it was pretty good I think, but not as cutting edge or witty as I was expecting. I thought it was a bit unfocused and threw a lot at the wall to see what stuck, but on the other hand, it was fun and more interesting than most. A solid 8/10. I do an IMDB rating for each film I watch, for my own reference mostly, but you can see each film I watched lately and my rating if you're curious or want to ask about them. If other anons have something similar feel free to post.

Rebel: Korean Robin Hood

So netflix has added a bunch of korean shows, and I ended up watching this, apparently (very) loosely based on an historical figure. Basically a korean robin hood, but the serie is made with great patience, large build up, ample character developement (there are like 30 1h long episodes). You actually start with the father of robin hood (who is a very based prole character, and I dont wanna spoil it, but god is the climax satisfying with him). And HOLY FUCK did this gave me a fiery HATE for confucianism, what a pile of awful reactionary garbage. To think most of asia had fell prey to such bullshit is depressing. Fuck feudal societies man.

Is poetry dead?

Button "Poetry" kept getting aggressively recommended to me in ads on Facebook, so I decided to check it out, and I have come to the conclusion that it is the most vapid psuedo-intellectual bourgeois spectacle I have ever seen (pic related) Libs eat that shit up when the poems aren't even well-written because it tells them what they want to hear. Sure, you can like what a "poem" is talking about, but that doesn't make it a good "poem", and the stuff they talk about is basic bitch lib shit anyway like "a cashier looked at me funny once at the grocery store, it was probably because I'm LGBT". Or stuff about muh depression. Newsflash; we're all depressed, honey. It's hard not to be in a society this alienating. If this is what's considered good modern poetry, can poetry be saved, or is it dead and buried? All of the examples of modern "poetry" that I can think of are similarly vapid, but I am very okay with being proven wrong.

Who else is still raging that Google decided to remove support for the Panoramio layer from Google Earth a few years ago? I used to love browsing Google Earth to find pictures from places without having to travel to them. But then Google decided to delete millions of photos and remove support for them, focusing on only allowing commercial enterprises to curate a limited number of pictures under a new initiative for tourism mostly. I wouldn't need to buy Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 if we still had the old features. You used to be able to find a lot more pictures like this from random photographers. They also removed support for Picasa recently.

The practice and principles of Permaculture are one of the most important tools for not only creating a sustainable socialism, but also for repairing the damage done to the global ecosystem by capitalism, and lessening your individual reliance on the current capitalist system.
Permacultural practice and socialism are two very powerful allies, and learning about permaculture should be necessity for modern socialists and communists.

Horror discussion from a leftist perspective

I've seen only a few other threads about horror on here and they seemed too specific, so I thought I'd make a broader one. How do you feel about the current state of horror media? To me it seems at it's always been in a way; a mixed bag. However I feel like I've noticed this trend and, correct me if you think I'm wrong, a lot of more successful recent horror seems to be more creator-driven than in the past. This is natural I think, as the internet has opened a lot of opportunities for more unique visions and riskier decisions that large studios would otherwise reject. In a strange sort of symbiosis, though, these large studios attempt to acquire these successful creators and even properties for themselves; see the phenomenon of Slenderman for example. Once an entirely community made, solely internet creation has gotten several of his own movies, and has by and large become an 'artifact' of sorts of 2010's-era web. Studios cannibalize these unique properties and, once they've made some modicum of a profit, utterly destroy the integrity of them, leaving communities to look for the next big thing in horror. With that aside, feel free to discuss almost literally anything horror related here; movies, books, ARGs, games, creepypasta (the rare good kind, if you can find any).

Spoilers obviously Was this Nolan's most reactionary film yet? The message of the film appears to be that future generations are all entitled brats who want to destroy the world to save themselves. The past should be preserved quite literally in this case at the expense of the future, who are all going to die of global warming. I think the future generations are right in this case. Fuck the boomers, global warming was their fault, and they would not hesitate to kill everyone before to save themselves so why should they? Seemed like some references to the whole 'confederate statue' thing as well. This is the same guy who defended torture and mass surveillance. Elizabeth Debicki was hot as always though. Worth watching the movie just for her. That whole subplot was weird though, she didn't want to leave her abusive husband because he'd report her for art forgery? The level of threat there was not believable enough. The movie as a movie is entertaining enough to watch at least once. The gimmick is enough to hold it up. I think everyone complaining that the sound mixing was too shit to hear anything is too focused on trying to understand something that's mostly an excuse for neat visual set pieces. That said, the climax of the film in that final battle was also the weakest part of the movie. It was difficult to tell who was shooting who and it looked like a scene out of inception. Speaking of which I have trouble ranking this above or below inception. Inception had a stronger emotional core, Cobb was more of a character than "The Protagonist" but on the flipside(hah), Inception was still suffering from some halfway bullshit in terms of pacing. Rewatching that movie, it can drag heavily when they do exposition for an entire scene. In Tenet, Nolan and his editors seem to have perfected a style where every scene doesn't drag even though it can be exposition heavy. This can be to a fault – the already mentioned plot point that future generations are going to invert the entire flow of time in a last ditch attempt to escape the end of the world due to climate change – is something that in any other movie would be treated as a major revelation. You'd have a scene of the main characters reacting to the news and thinking through the implications. The pacing in this movie is so scene-to-scene though that it's only explored once at the very end by the antagonist. Nolan leaves a lot of meat on the bone. Which again, is why everyone trying to nitpick about the details of the inverted time mechanics, or complaining about the sound mixing, is missing the point. It's mostly an excuse for a cinematic ride, turn your brain off. When the movie's over and you turn it back on, you'll realize the zoomers did nothing wrong. If the boomer conception of the past and traditions have to be destroyed to ensure the future, so be it.

I'm thinking of ending things is a very liberal movie

I had to just vent this somewhere. Spoilers below of course. Overall this is a good movie, I think it did what it set out to do quite well, but it is basically a reactionary and insular view of existential dread and depression through aging. The director is actually very forthcoming about what the film is "really" about, so there isn't much interpretation except death of the author alternate versions of what the movie was about. Kaufman said the movie is mostly the fantasies of the janitor, who is kind of trying to escape his regret and depression by imagining a better life. But in the process, he is basically so depressed and broken that he can't even achieve that. Kaufman kind of suggests he is interested in a wider notion that it can't be achieved at all, but within the movie it is specifically the janitor who can't fantasize. His own fantasy girlfriend kind of looks down on him, isn't totally interested in him, wants to leave him. He can't decide what her name is, how they met, what her career is. He keeps changing his mind about what happens on the night that they go meet his parents. He even inserts himself into his own fantasy as a creep, when the girl and the janitor's younger self kiss in the car and suddenly the younger self notices the janitor peering at them and rages that there is a pervert watching them. Ultimately the movie ends with the janitor killing himself by getting in his car during the blizzard and not turning it on. So maybe it is obvious why this movie feels like it has a very liberal or even reactionary message, but I'll spell it out anyways. The director, Kaufman, is kind of a pretentious guy. I like a lot of his movies, but he is very concerned with existential crises and memory and identity and stuff. He is a good filmmaker, but I want to highlight how his focus is kind of idealist. I think he has very metaphysical notions of what drives human beings to behave and think the way they do, so to him this movie isn't about a depressed janitor so much as about the human condition. However, the movie is literally about a depressed janitor. Not only that, but the movie has several key lines in it that feel like they almost directly confront and endorse the concrete form the movie takes. Basically, the movie explores this guy's regret and depression by kind of suggesting that there is no resolution to it, it is just a part of the human condition to have regrets and fear aging. The viewer just watches it to feel the pain of the janitor and maybe cry about how cruel the universe is. In particular there is a line that is stated after the janitor goes in his car to die and starts hallucinating the pig with a maggot infested belly. This is a callback to earlier in the film when he tells his fantasy girlfriend that some pigs died on his farm a long time ago when the family found their bellies were infested with maggots, and they were being "eaten alive". So he hallucinates himself following the pig back into the school, and the pig reassures him that everything is going to be ok, we are all actually the same, and that he basically shouldn't fight his regret and depression because "somebody has to be the maggot infested pig". This is at the very end of the movie, maybe the last 15 minutes, and it feels like the capstone message to the whole thing. Ultimately what the movie is about is the regret and depression of an extremely unaccomplished and lonely man at the bottom of society, and the movie tells you "it's ok, this is just the way the universe works. You were just born as the maggot infested pig. But don't worry, we are all made of the same dirt". And then the audience nods and cries and says the movie was very deep. But the movie has a clear ideology. What is "sad" about the movie is the defeat of hope and the acceptance of that defeat. The movie isn't giving you any other message about suicide or even the wider context of this man's life. In fact, he really is barely a character for how indulgent it is of his mental state. He really is just a blank sad guy, and we get some glimpses into the fact he grew up on a farm or that his parents probably died of dementia, but nothing that is too revealing. We aren't really sure if he was even actually a physicist or he made that up as a part of his fantasy. He is just a sad old loser janitor guy. So it obfuscates a message of the acceptance of the existence of this kind of regret, defeat of hope, of people being able to continue living but being forgotten and neglected beyond their utility in their jobs at the bottom of society, and it just suggests that this is the eternal human condition. The pig directly tells him that somebody has to be in his situation, but he can basically take comfort in knowing that even the person he wishes he was would die and turn to the same dirt. And while there is some truth that again, everybody grapples with existential dread from aging, the concrete form the movie took was all revolving around these other themes. The guy was a loser, he was at the bottom of society, he was forgotten and socially neglected. So the concrete experience of the movie has become a bunch of people in the society that may produce this kind of person simply consuming a piece of media making them feel sad about it in a matter of fact way. Like it is a kind of emotionally or intellectually sophisticated piece of fiction that allows the liberal subject to view the horror of a person in their own world suffering from things very rooted in that world, and cry about it and say "it couldn't have been any other way, and understanding that makes me feel as though I've understood the universe".

Holy shit, I've rarely seen a movie as on the nose and blunt in its critique of capitalist society, and yet Americans seemingly cannot comprehend what it's a criticism of. Music Theory

I want to understand how you're supposed to play songs on piano. From what I've seen so far, you play the melody with one hand and with the other hand you play the chords, either as full chords or arpeggios. But how do you know which chords you have to play to fit a certain melody? I already know a bit of music theory so I tried figuring it out on my own. I looked up Katyusha on piano to see which chords are played. The song is in D minor, and they play the chords in this order: Dmin x3 Amaj 2nd inversion x4 (Db E A) Dmin x 2 Fmaj 1st inv. (C F A) Gmin 1st inv. (D G Bb) Dmin, Gmin 1st inv. , Dmin, Amaj inv. , Dmin. I assume that some chords are inverted so that the transition between them is smoother. They play the same melody on the right hand side throughout the video, but in the beginning they only play the root notes of the chords with their left hand, after that they play the chords in different ways, and then they play the complete triads. And this is my question, how do you know which chord progression fits over a melody? I tried to see if the chord degrees had anything to do with it. The chords in the key of D minor should be: Dmin (i), Edim (ii dim), Fmaj (III), Gmin (IV), Amin (v), Bbmaj (VI), Cmaj (VII). I imagined in simpler songs like this one you only needed to play chords from the key, but here they use an Amaj (A Db E) instead of an Amin (A C E), and I listened to the song with both an Amin and an Amaj, and I think it sounds better with the Amaj. I guess because when a G is played in the melody over the Amaj it forms an Amaj7 which creates more tension. I also tried writing the chord progression: i - i - i - V V - V - V - i i - III - iv - i iv - i - V - i but I can't really tell if this has anything to do with the melody. So if I take another simple melody like Bella Ciao for example, can I figure out what chords to play from just that? Or do I just try to see which chords sound good over it? I guess what I want to know is in which way the notes in the melody relate to the notes in the chord progression? >tldr: how does music work

This is a subject I'm not sure if its worth bringing up or not but given the makeup of the Bunker's userbase I figure at least a few other people here are engaged with following various lolcows The main one I'm following at the minute is an American kid called KingCobraJFS, and watching his stuff is like slowly sliding into a bath full of human waste, its utterly fascinating watching the real time decline of another human being without the constant stress of experiencing that kind of thing IRL, I've been following M'lord Cobes for a year and a bit now and his slow deathspiral is really accelerating, watching his latest saga I started to think about how large an impact people like CWC and other lolcows had on chan culture and how this kind of mass insight into a stranger's long running nightmare was basically impossible before the internet, it feels like an extension of professional celebrity culture, but more pathetic and grimmer, a uniquely late capitalist experience Am I a terrible person for watching this kid fall apart from afar, even though I don't interact with him at all, don't tap the glass etc.? What lolcows do you follow? Do you empathise with them or is it purely a hate watch for you? I feel bad for Cobes, I really do, he obviously has a number of serious mental health issues, but he's so fucking obnoxius, unpleasant and spiteful its hard to feel it sometimes, and he's too funny to stop watching I'm not sure how the fuck to introduce someone to Josh, but here's some classics, condensed and cut to be more tolerable, and a couple videos from other creators on Josh giving more of an overview Most of these are a few years apart, the last is his most recent escapade, you can really see the descent into complete insanity

Why doesn't anybody live in places like hashima island or western american gold towns? It seems like a waste of pre-fabricated infrastructure, doesn't it? Would having a dedicated supply chain such as a food distribution center on its own work to incentivize colonist introduction to a place like hashima, or would more be necessary to utilize such spaces for human development? Also, does anybody else think living in abandoned buildings would be kinda awesome?

'Self Help' from a leftist perspective

Hello everyone. I was just wondering if anyone has any helpful resources for improving your life but from a left wing perspective? I find all the vacuous and trite content of the 'self help' industry where it's basically just con artists pretending to be rich and successful so they can scam other people for the secrets to be rich and successful, and I can't engage with absurd alienated advice about 'being an entrepreneur', 'marketting myself', 'just visualise your BMW until you have it' and so on. I'm very depressed and I find it hard to do anything. I don't have a job either and I live in my parents place. So any steps forward would be helpful. But for whatever reason I find it really hard to 'just do X' to improve my life. I feel like everything is fucked so what's the point in doing anything. Whilst I might understand that capitalism is a cause for many of the problems in the world including the ones that affect me, it doesn't really help me deal with it or find a way to make my life tolerable. So, is there anything that has helped you?

Art Deco <the Art Deco enthusiast, like the devotee of Expressionism, is by that interest making a statement about the nature of his or her soul. He or she is impatient with surface images, bored with frippery, and drawn by the weird and the outré. Art Deco portrays the human being as one secretly wishes to be: a kind of _Metropolis_ robot[rix] with a dispassionate, cool, and cruel disposition. Art Deco is never warm, cozy, reassuring; it is glacial and impersonal. Those fearful of, dissatisfied with, or contemptuous of human emotions seek in Art Deco a mirror which will show them - and reinforce in them - only the non-human aspects of their souls. Self Improvement

Hello comrades. ITT we talk about what we are doing to improve ourselves. I'll go first: I am trying to quit smoking. This is probably my sixth attempt but I am going to try and take it more seriously this time. I have been cutting down for the past few months and had gotten down to 3 cigarettes a day but when I tried to quit earlier this week I ended up buying a pack at the end of the first day and smoking the whole thing that night out of anxiety about quitting. I am a drug addict in recovery and this leaves coffee and kratom as the two substances I can use. The kratom seems to help with cigarette cravings or at least incentivizes smoking because I feel sick when I smoke on it. I might try NRT too. I am going to try and get back into running too since that helped me get off heroin the first time.

Buildings should last

So many fabulous and easily maintained buildings have been demolished because of short-sightedness. We shouldn't be vandals of architecture. We should preserve the Penn stations and the Russian cathedrals of the world, and not just demolish our monuments. We should rebuild some of them as well. Red Metal

As an avid listener of metal, something that frustrates me is the prevalence of chuds and reactionaries in metal (especially black metal). The visibility of guys like Varg and Famine of Peste Noire infamy has colored the public perception of extreme metal as being the domain of edgelord fascists. What are some metal groups that could be said to be socialist, anarchist, or leftist in some manner? To start things off, I'd highly recommend the Panopticon album "Kentucky," which is a BM album about the state's history with labor organizing among coal miners, as well as the coal industry's destruction of the state's natural beauty. It's not a perfect album by any means but the way it mixes BM with bluegrass is cool, plus it has an incredibly redpilled message.

Making a leftist youtube channel.

ITT we help each other and guide each other on how to conduct a succesful youtube channel and to spread the word of /leftypol/ through breadtube. Theory is now transmitted through youtube let's plays. To make a youtube channel, you need: >An editing software and editing skills. >Knowledge on how to make thumbnails using photoshop (?). >Knowdlege about how to make a script to your videos, how to mantain them interesting for the audience. >Knowdledge to evade youtube's desmonetizations, as it has been proven that they also affect how Youtube interacts with the videos, pretty much shadow banning them. >Knowdledge of the tech market to buy the best microphone for your buck. >Knowledge to record yourself without looking to out of place. >Knowledge to read a script with passion, instead of reading a school essay. Make Leftube Leftypol Again.

I don’t know is that a good idea to post this on that board, but I will try... For some time I thought about the rightness to renounce certain forms of consumption as part of the fight against capitalism. I am able to understand that there are things that cannot be done without buying as new products, generating profit for private entrepreneurs, and they are needed in today's world. However, in my opinion, a consistent socialist should not feed this monster more than necessary. There is no need to buy an iPhone, coffee at Starbucks or a burger at McDonalds. It is worth mentioning some tips on how to survive in this mess. Every socialist should, in some sense be an ascetic. - You don't need a smartphone if you have a laptop. A regular cell phone should be enough, today they have an internet browser installed to check basic things. And running applications from android or Ios is possible through PC emulators. Android applications can be downloaded without a Google account here: -You don't need new clothes. Today's second hand shops have good quality textiles. It is worth mentioning that today's clothes are made of low quality fabrics and fibers that tend to be easily damaged. And the dyes used in them are often harmful to the skin and are poorly primed, which causes the color to wash quickly. It is worth mentioning here that it is good not to wear clothes with visible manufacturer logos. Why should you be an ad as a socialist? It is worth decontaminating them after buying clothes. They can be boiled in a suitable powder or treated with an ozone generator (highly recommended during a pandemic). - Do you furnish the house? Take a look around the local flea market for old furniture. Often, such furniture is made of pure wood (not woodlike materials), and their presence and condition proves their strength. Be careful only on furniture that may have a bark beetle. Removing it with special chemistry is an additional expense. - Food. Look for small food stores, these are usually run by the family, or if you live in the countryside you can get along with local farmers running small farms. It is worth having your own garden. The best idea if you live in a city is to grow your own perennial herbs in pots. - You don't need a car. Today's public transport will take you anywhere you want, cheaper than if you bought fuel every time. However, this issue is very subjective and depends on many other factors. - Many electronics today are worth buying as used, often these antiques work for a very long time. For example, I'm currently using a 20-year-old microwave. The only devices that are not worth investing in are old computers and all Smart electronics due to their collection of quite sensitive data. Many people think that to get rid of the virus from a used computer, it is enough to replace the hard disk. This is a mistake - there are also viruses in the bios. - Use open source software. Many of them are doing great as an alternative to commercial software. - Cook dishes instead of ordering. - It is worth thinking about the production of cleaning products, it is not difficult. However, if you can't, then you should think about using ordinary bar soap for a bath or shower. And if you need something to clean your windows, a vinegar and water mixture is all you need. For washing the bathroom - baking soda. For washing clothes - a laundry ball, which is much more effective than powder. Do you have any other recommendations, comrades?

Weird exotic fruit

Has anyone trier any unusual fruit? I found the channel of a Yuppie who has traveled thr world eating all kinds of exotic tropic fruit or having it delivered. It makes me want to grow some unusual trees. I'm starting with a miracle berry tree. supposedly once eaten the berry causes sour things to taste sweet for thirty minutes. I am excited because it would allow me to basically give up on having sugar in soda. I could just drink lemonade without sugar, and eat bitter healthy food without suffering. I'm also interested in growing Chico, a cinnamon tasting kind of apple. And there are a ton of sapote I'd like to try eating, and also snake fruit. The truth is most of the food and fruits we eat at super markets are only there because they're easy to produce or shelf long. The best kinds of fruit which are grown for personal taste by farmers are usually not mass producable. That's why we as lefties need to take the time to plant more exotic fruit trees so those trees will always keep giving back. Then we can share the fruits without relying on supermarkets with the same damb flavors. We can literally eat more gourmet food once we fight back against big agriculture and capitalism. There are for instance many kinds of bananas and mangoes with different flavors and textures but you'll never see them, when all the bananas at the market are literally from a tree that has been cloned millions of times. Check out his channel or google "exotic fruit" if you've never left your home and don't know what I'm talking about.

Speed Reading

How to become much faster at reading, while also maintaining acceptable comprehension? I read 240 WPM which is about average. I have so much to read, I won't get through it all if I stay a readlet. Watched some YouTube videos and people are saying many of the speed reading techniques are bullshit. Like extending your peripheral vision to read more words simultaneously in a broad stroke is apparently not possible. Not vocalizing the words you read apparently significantly reduces comprehension. Another technique is to selectively skim some parts you deem to be less important while assuming you will still understand the gist of what has been written when you read the rest, which is kind of a sleazy way of "reading" faster. I literally want to read the entire text FASTER. The fuck do I do here fellow niggas?

I think it's a good idea to archive internet people who aren't retarded spectacle enveloped types that the internet thread on leftypol makes fun of. Is it just me or are most jobs in IT utter bullshit? I am not referring to "Bullshit Jobs", the book. It's something different. Take say twitter. The mobile twitter front-end in particular. What is twitter? Chunks of text with occasional hyperlinks, pictures and videos. There are also a couple of forms, to register, to submit a tweet, to report stuff, etc. So again, it needs text, pictures, links and forms. All of that is supported by HTML directly, i.e. it doesn't even require a single line of javascript to accomplish that. But judging from the fact that on an old phone twitter may take half a minute or more to load or it may actually fail to load, or freeze up while loading, and taking in account how generally sluggish it is, it's obivous that it isn't plain html. In fact, there's probably a good dozen of megabytes of JS and CSS code, and that is after compression. The code that nobody every asked for. "Yeah I'd really like some people to spend their time writing thousands (?) of lines of code just to provide me with a site with the exact same functionality but with way poorer performance" - said no user ever. Bloated frontends should actually push users away it'd seem, and they probably do to some degree, that's why e.g. nitter and exist. And this doesn't only apply to twitter. The same with youtube (there exist even more alternative front-ends, hooktube and invidious and there probably are more). The same with the vast majority of sites on the web, actually. There are countless frameworks like React or Angular, that achieve the same thing as can be achieved using regular HTML and some js, but they make websites slower AND require people to develop them AND people to learn them. And by the way AFAIK nitter or invidious devs aren't paid anything for creating the sites, they might receive donations but that's it isn't it So who profits from the labour of those who develop such sites? Why would the capitalists behind e.g. twitter be interested in a) Paying more people b) Making the site less attractive to users, thus potentially reducing their profits.

I'm sick of seeing stereotypical "california lifestyle" shit in concept cars. Here's a few examples: Yes, the examples are a bit dated but the dated nature of them just shows how stupid this all is. And, as it directly pertains to Leftism: in the 1930s the government created a specific architecture for rural areas, known as National Park Service Rustic. NPSR-national is just a styled blend of everything, but it was adapted by California's government for various uses around the state: in the north CA Park Rustic tends to lean towards clapboard-looking shacks while south of Fremont (a notable place, it's where the first railroads went through to Oakland) they went for plaster-based spanish designs. Both prominently feature the state's colors: white, red and brown. Spanish buildings trended red while Norcal ones trended brown. Why does this matter to leftists at all? Well in transportation specifically these colors were used to create what is now Caltrain's logo, back when the state government decided to just take over service completely from it's disinterested private operator, Southern Pacific. Notably SP's first class passenger colors were silver and red, and this transition marked an important step in American cultural development as (wait for it) Americans, including stereotypically rural ones that voted for Reagan all six times, voted for the government to provide a service that private industry was unwilling to continue. This was a hard fought victory, while Amtrak had already existed at that point this was a step in forcing the President to not stop Congress from buying Amtrak their own equipment (at the time, Amtrak was still using 30s-era legacy cars given over per the terms of it's creation). On a similar point, same goes for SF's Muni whose choice of grey/red reflects the growth of Norcal's economy relative to LA's; Muni's old yellow/white paint existed in response to LA's rise and LA is associated with warmer colors. None of this is referenced in automobile concept cars, because car concepts are what companies want people to be and not what they are. Though I find it ironic that with all the concept RVs, none of them depict the reality of RV homelessness which is propane tanks, small generators and a strong septic smell. In short as all this godawful bullshit over trying to make a "Californian" car happens, California already built itself it's own railway so to speak. And this happened while everyone was still drinking the oil industry's spookery about communism. The current attempts at making a "California" cultural automobile are as stupid and ridiculous as trying to make a "California" cultural soda can or "California" cultural mobility scooter. It pisses me off. By the way, pic related is what Californian architecture was from 1950-2000: a 10-lane freeway built on top of cut down railroad (originally it was four tracks, turned into four after a nearby tunnel fire). In LA I-10 flanks the Sunset Route.

/leftypol/ TV

We can watch stuff together on cytube. The nazis have their own channel, why shouldn't we?

Right now there are prolekult documentaries on, some Soviet kinos, random classics, basically stuff I could find on youtube. But I will be uploading movies as time goes on.

>Why does it take long to upload a movie?
Movies are hosted on google drive. Google has an algorithm that compares the hashes of uploaded videos to hashes of known pirated copies of movies. So public torrent releases that you find on rarbg and tpb get flagged quickly and removed. To avoid this, a downloaded movie has to be transcoded (I only have a 4c/4t ryzen 3200g). The movie is then uploaded to google drive (this is the part that takes the least amount of time) and once it is uploaded Google has to process the video so that it can be streamed/watched (this can take anywhere from an hour to a day).

Feel free to suggest movies and shows you'd like to see and I will slowly add them.

If you register your nick with cytube (no email required, just username and password) I'll make you a mod so that you can adjust the playlist, change movies, etc.

People have expressed interest before in doing a Bunkerchan movie night. This is a thread to discuss that and to post any planned streams (Hoxha might want to sticky this).

So first of all: I'm not going to stream shit unless people show up. That being said, I can't stream every week at a time that works for everyone even if I wanted to, so if anyone other than me is able to stream and willing to, you should post here.

I'm also wondering what sorts of things people would want to watch. People have in the past talked about doing lefty themed movies and documentaries, but I think that'd be kind of limiting if it was all we streamed.

The Hostel - I saw it, it didn't scare me much. It might appeal to other people though. It's more of a "getting kidnapped and raped a brutally murdered" kind of thing.
Angel Heart
The Fourth Kind - Only saw it partially, i think it maybe had some spooky scenes but it was years ago and i need to rewatch.
Noroi The Curse - I actually saw the full thing. I highly recommend it, subbed of course because dubbed japanese entertainment loses the emotion in the voice.
La Voyage Dans La Lun
The Demonic Tapes (british horror film)
Ju-on the grudge (the japanese version) - I saw this one too, but don't remember enough to tell you how good it was.
Antichrist (the film)
Annihilation ( was interested in it a few months ago, it had some legit unsettling shit in it, but i can't see how it'd be a full on horror thing since some of it seems too artsy)
A Tale of Two Sisters
The Thing (the original not the prequel)
The Exorcist (maybe that's a normie movie, i don't know, i haven't seen it but it's gotten a lot of praise over the years)

Aside from that list you should watch the poughkeepsie tapes. It's pretty good. Also give REC a try. Not Quarantine though, REC. Also the original blair witch project.
That's all i got.

Magic the gathering General.

Well, throne of eldraine dropped and, I have to say, this is probably one of the most impressive sets i've seen come from wizards in a while.

Other than the push on all the whales and timmies there's some good things in this; genuinely unique stuff.

The alternative art/border cards really do look amazing.

But let's get down to business:

Right now, with the current format and meta change I would say that blue red and green on really on top right now. Blue has some great control and red/green has just been astoundingly fast. I have been hitting for almost ten by turn 3-4. Red was also blessed with some control in the form of Opportunistic dragon.

You throw some pelt collectors in and some Bonecrusher Giants and you are looking at some serious threats being placed on the field.

Right now I am running a Red/Green beat down deck. It's not optimized, but, it is running smoothly.

Anyone else getting into standard right now? What are some of your thoughts and opinions?/Strategies?

A leftist /tech/ board is great! Let's use it more, comrades!
Are any oldfags around who had the joy to come in contact with pic related or other micro electronics from real socialistic states? Sadly I was born too late to have a opinion on their products.

I read DDR lightbulbs were more durable than the western ones because they had no planned obsolesence; what do you think would our society today look like, if more elecronic products like smartphones were designed with a much longer lifetime in mind? Would the use-value of the products stay the same over time, or would it decrease with technical progress?

Code of Conduct(s)

Perhaps a declaration of technical principles would be a better term, but regardless the necessity of finding a means (beyond licenses out of necessity) to secure our software from outside meddling seems to be all the more essential the more I think about it. There are approximately 90 CVE's (70% due to memory safety) in each Linux kernel major version, many of which remain outstanding even after moving to the next version, with the average lifespan between 3 and 6 years for "high" and "critical" bugs. The Linux kernel is now approaching 28 million lines of poorly documented code, making it completely beyond what a actual audit is capable of assessing, beyond comprehension. More than this the development of the kernel and funding of the foundation are almost entirely in corporate hands. Linux is but a example, every large component of major infrastructure (and rest assured if it's major infrastructure it will become large) suffers from similar plights.

What I'm not attempting to advance here is the suckless philosophy. In my opinion suckless goes beyond attempting to restrict the scope of their projects to an obsession with SLOC to the point of harming correctness and completeness (for a sound list of necessary features see here: They do not document their programs, following the mantra that code is documentation (which is true but insufficient). Additionally they fail to critique the accepted protocols and divisions of applications, which would allow them to not only make more correct complete software, but also to make in aggregate simpler software. As a example why make a separate windowing system, terminal multiplexer, terminal emulator, and text editor when these things could all be combined as extensions of one another. Why separate your text editor from your web browser? Why work with text streams and the file system instead of having a single address space? Why take X-Server for granted rather than building of Linux's frame-buffer.

What issues is it that I'm pointing at here exactly:
a) scope creep
b) illiterate programming
c) unquestioned assumptions (primarily those given to us by unix)
d) over-optimization (understandability, and completeness should be prioritized over micro-optimizations)
e) insecure technologies (for example unassisted manual memory management, and unchecked type wraps)
f) incomplete software (corner cases handled etc)

Can you think of any more, or a consolidation of the terms listed here?

What should Education under a Leftist system look like? The current system obviously doesn't work as can be seen by the large amounts of dropouts and general scorn and dissatisfaction that is directed towards the system.

I'm personally leaning towards the Sudbury Model of Education, essentially the government, school, and parents have no say in what is taught (preventing bias and the brainwashing type of education in modern public and religious schools).
The school's rules as well as other actions are decided by a democratic "School Meeting" consisting of Staff members and the entire Student Population, each has an equal vote and the staff possesses no veto power. Meaning that the school is mostly run by the students, there is no curriculum and no classes, the students decide what to learn, how to do it, and can ask other students or staff for assistance if they wish.
There are no divisions by age or skill meaning that younger students can interact with older ones at will and vice versa, allowing for older students to act as big brothers/sisters to younger students giving them a chance to develop greater empathy and responsibility while giving younger students the ability to find mentors (that they can personally identify with, unlike the ones assigned under current mentor-ship or tutoring programs).

It's worked very well already in the few schools that have tried it:

What would be other good ideas and ways to reform the current system?

I've been trying to find some more information on the original systems operating in the Soviet Union. Especially those earlier systems that showed some promise and interesting features. I've been looking specifically at the BESM-6 due to the ample documentation available. The most interesting features to me are the system of modes, and bit packing, both of which seem very odd but interesting to me, oh also it's RISC which is nice. The CPU was also developed under the name Elbrus into the late 80's which is unique, and was reasonably competitive at the time. The Elbrus-3 which was a completely new ISA with novel VLIW capabilities was also competitive.

Would any of you happen to have any information on the MIR «Машина для Инженерных Расчётов» machines? I'm struggling to find any information on them but they sound fascinating especially concerning "a hardware implementation of a high-level programming language capable of symbolic manipulations" which reminds me of the exceptional Scheme-48. Also it seems to be immensely capable for its size. Thanks in advance!

Lokinet General

I don't know if I am the only person here who knows what lokinet is, but, basically lokinet is an encryption service provider that acts like tor; tor in the sense that it encrypts your packets with multi-layer encryption and bounces them around through a series of relays.

What makes it different is that it also acts like i2p in the sense that it also encrypts the encrypted packets in a secure SSL tunnel while bouncing them around making it truly anonymous.

It's also a decentralized network of relays and nodes of which anyone can spring one up and become a part of and on top of that you can use it as your default DNS provider meaning you can use this network as a vpn with out having to go through shady capitalistic datamines claiming to protect your data.

The down side is it's small right now and not a lot of people use it. It's fast though.

Furthermore, I can't seem to get the relays you need when you try to use lokinet as a VPN to work. I spoke with the staff on their IRC network and they told me the relays are down for those specifically.

I don't know if they ever got them up.

Does anyone else fuck around with lokinet on /tech/?

Setting up zeronet for 08chan is a fucking herculean task of epic proportion.
How the fuck has anyone gotten this piece of shit to fucking function?

I finally managed to figure out in order to post you need to get an ID from zeroID but after I did that it wouldn't post while I was using tor. So I backed my torrc file uninstalled (cause it automatically runs on linux apparently) re-compile zeronet and then I can't make another fucking ID cause it's attached to my IP address. Like what the fuck? So I wait again, and attempt to make a post, after getting my cert, with out tor on and then i'm getting the stupid "Your post is Xbytes > 0" Error.

AFTER SETTING IT UP FOR TOR WHICH WAS ALSO A HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS. I had to find out the hard way that the apt package, as usual, is fucked.

Ergo, had to compile it.

Literally how in the absolute fuck do you get this fucker to function?
