Historical Documentary General Historian 03/05/2020 (Thu) 01:47:31 No. 94
This will be a thread for posting and sharing Documentaries about history as a whole. I was sitting around watching Step back and I realized it has been a while since I have seen any of those old BBC like documentaries about historical figures. Doesn't have to be older though. If you have any Youtube links or torrents to look up post them here. Thanks anons.
>>95 What documentaries are these Anon? Ideally I'd like to torrent them.
>>94 If anyone know of any good docs on the Russian Revolution, that would be much appreciated.
Here's a great doumentary series about the Cultural Revolution in China, 'How Yukong Moved the Mountains': https://invidio.us/playlist?list=PLMt0ncvnKoz3ar_f78qBeA29-0kwrsXvT
>>98 Also, here's a good couple of documentaries about the Chinese Revolution from beginning to the Communist's victory to Deng's counter-revolution, 'China A Century of Revolution' 1911 - 1949: https://invidio.us/watch?v=I5cl0GjPjy4 1949 - 1976': https://invidio.us/watch?v=I5cl0GjPjy4
Here's one on the last gasps of Britain's organized labour movements in the 1980's, specifically the battle between the state police and local miners in Orgreave: https://invidio.us/watch?v=dn7DZSagDI4
>>96 It is a documentary made for the 40th anniversary of the Peoples Socialist Republic of Albania split into 3 .mp4 files https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHBR8aJPkU4
Anybody got any good documentaries for showing what life was like in the USSR?
https://www.smithsonianchannel.com/shows/america-in-color/1004516 Not sure if this counts as an proper documentary
>>94 Here's a playlist for a good docudrama series about the war on the eastern front, russian-produced originally and dubbed to english. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLY-Fb3vVQUeqi7Uye-vJ_r7TO8PZFDAfr the soundtrack especially kicks ass and its mostly focused on just recreating what happened in each battle that's covered, the important people that participated and what equipment was used.
Not really an official proper documentary but this guy called Drachinifel(no not the original baddy from Warhammer Fantasy) does a lot of good documentary style videos on naval history stuff. I like it cause I'm a dumb naval history nerd. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4mftUX7apmV1vsVXZh7RTw Otherwise there's that BBC documentary on the breakup of Yugoslavia which manages to not be utter shit. And most Oliver Stone shit, I mean he's a liberal but it's good to watch his stuff usually boil down to "US bad".
>>105 Damn that's weird I just started watching this guy a week ago. If you only watch one video, this one is hilarious even if you're not a naval autism guy https://youtu.be/9Mdi_Fh9_Ag
>>94 I enjoyed this one about the spanish civil war its six episodes long https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAuucEydM53fQhEZiJHdWNzbdea35avxe
Hello frens, which documentaries by Adam Curtis do you recommend? I already watched Hypernormalisation, All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace and The Century of the Self.
>>2192 As someone who used Curtis as a stepping stone to their radicalization and then realized in hindsight he is not that profound, I'd say looking back it was The Trap: What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom that was the most important documentary for me. While All Watched Over is ok, Hypernorm is a bit overrated, as it is more of a stiching of all his previous works + cultural analysis of the '16. Meanwhile Trap covers extensivelly the workings of modern burgoise ideology, its effect on the populace, and also taught and radicalized me to accepting possitive liberty. Aside from this doc, Bitter Lake and The Power of Nightmares are likely the best, as these cover historical events and the actors on different sides of them (specifically Afghanistan and the neocon actions globally).
>>2202 thank you, definitely gonna check them out
any particularly good ones on the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars?
Any in Spanish, I need to work on my understanding of the lang. Does not need to be about LA or Spain though.
A documentary that I watched a while back was "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised." Its about the 2002 coup on Hugo Chavez, and its a pretty interesting watch as the people making the documentary were there on the scene the days before, during and after the coup. Something that I liked was that they showed you the different class reactions to the idea of the Chavez presidency. Like obviously, we can guess, but I still hate/love seeing the porkies taking their mask off. Here a link to it: https://youtu.be/wKf1nccf3OI
>>2229 La batalla de Chile Cordillera de los sueños Botó de nácar Nostalgia de la luz All by Patricio Guzmán.
Any based and redpilled documentary on the Hungarian revolution of 1956?
DW in spanish just posted this documentary about German Rocket Scientists in Mobutu's Zaire. It's pretty interesting to see how Elon Musk could have ended if the political door he needed were closed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB26MHTC3Xs Or invidio https://invidio.us/watch?v=HB26MHTC3Xs (Those fuckers in DW spanish put 5 ads meanwhile in DW english there is only one, fuck them)

Found out that Marx Reloaded is on Youtube, a documentary film I always wanted to watch but never could find: https://youtu.be/o1ZVv0I7DH8
An hour long, fucking amazing documentary about the rise of the islamic empires and their decline into anti scientific quasi isolationism. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60JboffOhaw
I found this on youtube regarding the Internationale, short but really good. The bit with the Communard in the USSR is amazing, never knew they lived that long but it makes sense, only 46 years. Also love the bit with the different communist leaders in the 1930s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKq5UN9sjqU
A good overall documentary on the History of Neoliberalism https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLATIVW2S3zKMbVlnAHAPR0sHZisHJl4fd
